The Somerset Lady Jumpers certainly picked the right time to notch their first district win of the season on Tuesday night.

Casey Rexroat’s club visited arch-rival Pulaski County on Tuesday evening, and after blowing a five-point halftime lead, Somerset rallied from a fourth quarter deficit to pick itself off the mat for a hard-fought, 46-44 victory over Pulaski County.

The comeback win improved Somerset to 9-12 on the season and to 1-4 in district play, while Pulaski County fell to 12-9 overall with the loss, and dropped to 1-3 against league opponents.

Somerset came out on fire in this one, getting the job done from behind the three-point line early on.

The Lady Jumpers led PC by a 24-19 margin at the intermission, but thanks to a 17-9 third quarter in favor of the homestanding Lady Maroons, it was Pulaski County that took a 36-33 lead by the end of the third quarter.

However in the game’s final eight minutes, Chris Adkins and company couldn’t maintain the lead, as a determined Somerset squad roared back — despite several clutch misses late in the game from the charity stripe — to notch the two-point win over the Lady Maroons.

Lauren Foutch paced Somerset in the win with a game-high 21 points, while Madison Garland joined her in double figures with 11 points.

Heidi Thompson meanwhile led Pulaski County with 15 points, and Maddy Dunn chipped in with 10 points.

Somerset will return to action on Thursday night on the road at Knox Central, while Pulaski County will return to the hardwood with district rival Rockcastle County on Friday night at The PC Gym.

That game is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
