One day after falling in a close game to Middlesboro 53-51 in the M & W Classic, the Southwestern Warriors finished play in the tourney on Sunday afternoon at The Wigwam, and Chris Baker’s club lost another close game — this time in a heartbreaker at the buzzer.
Playing without its floor leader — senior guard Cole Dysinger who was hurt in the loss to Middlesboro — the Warriors fought back against visiting Danville in the second half, but that wouldn’t keep the Warriors from falling to 7-2 on the season, with a 61-59 loss, thanks to a shot at the buzzer by the Admirals.
Senior center Jon Wood led the Warriors by scoring a career-high 21 points, but that wouldn’t be enough to keep the blue and orange from going into the week of Christmas with a two-game losing skid.
Hunter Coffey added 10 points for Southwestern, who with the loss, fell to 7-2 on the season.
Southwestern will return to action on Friday, facing Central Magnet School, Tennessee at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic.
