Lady Maroons stay perfect, blow out Garrard County

By DOUG EADS

The Pulaski County Lady Maroons — fresh off of last weekend’s 71-23 blowout win over West Jessamine — returned to action on Monday night at The PC Gym, and Chris Adkins club enjoyed yet another blowout victory.

After trailing visiting Garrard County 14-12 at the end of the first period, the homestanding Lady Maroons put this one away before halftime, outscoring the Lady Lions 33-5 in the second frame.

Thanks to that outburst in the second period, it was Pulaski County taking a very comfortable, 45-19 lead into the locker room at the intermission, on its way to a 78-47 beatdown win over the Lady Lions.

In that decisive second quarter, Maddy Dunn — who led PC in scoring in the contest with 19 points — tallied nine of those 19 points, while Madelyn Blankenship netted all eight of her points in the stanza, hitting a pair of three-point baskets along the way.

Pulaski County had 12 players hit the scoring column in Monday night’s win. Senior guard Heidi Thompson joined Dunn in double figures, by scoring 13 points.

Things figure to get much tougher for Adkins and crew the next time out. PC will be on the road in Liberty on Friday night, taking on the Casey County Lady Rebels in their district opener.

The Lady Rebels are ranked in the top 20 rankings in the state of Kentucky, and that game will be the first contest of a girl-boy doubleheader, beginning at 6 p.m.
