Early on, things looked pretty good for Southwestern last Friday night.
The Warriors led homestanding and winless Knox Central by an early, 7-0 margin, but that’s when all that was good went south, and in a hurry for Jason Foley and company.
One of Southwestern’s leaders — Austin Barnes — was ejected during the first drive of the game, and that would be a tell-tale sign of things to come for the blue and orange.
The Warriors only managed 111 yards rushing in this one, and that lone score early would come on a 27-yard strike from quarterback Blake Burton to Xavier Streeter.
After that, this one was all Knox Central.
The Panthers would rally to score 22 unanswered points the rest of the way, and as a result, Southwestern would leave Barbourville with a 1-2 season record in a very disappointing loss.
For the game, running back Chase Doan led the Southwestern rushing attack with 71 yards, while Burton would hit on 11-19 pass attempts for 79 yards, but it would not be enough on this night.
Southwestern will return home this Friday night, but the task at hand will not be any easier by no means.
The Wayne County Cardinals — 2-1 on the season, and coming off a 62-27 pounding over Rockcastle County last Friday night — will invade The Reservation this Friday evening for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
If you can’t make it out to the game, you can join me and Melanie Hines for the Don Franklin Family of Dealerships Game of the Week on LAKE 102.3 FM.
Our pregame show will get underway at 7:15 p.m., with kickoff slated from Southwestern High School at 7:30 p.m.
