Somerset’s Gavin Stephens hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning on Wednesday afternoon, and Kade Grundy would take it from there.
Stephens’ RBI gave Somerset a 1-0 lead over visiting Whitley County in the home half of the first inning at that juncture, and that would be all the run support the young sophomore — Grundy — would need.
Grundy threw a complete game against the Colonels, going seven innings on the mound, fanning seven hitters in helping lead the Briar Jumpers to a 1-0 victory over the Colonels.

And for good measure, Grundy led Somerset’s offensive attack as well with a team-leading two basehits in the win.
For Somerset, the win improved Phil Grundy’s club to 14-8 on the season, while Whitley County fell to 19-8 with the loss.
Somerset will return to action on Thursday afternoon at home — weather permitting — to host Lincoln County at 5:30 p.m.
