The Southwestern Warriors returned home to the friendly confines of The Wigwam on Saturday afternoon, and Chris Baker’s club had to rally against a struggling Nelson County team, but rally — big-time — is exactly what the Warriors were able to do in a 72-34 victory.
Facing a 1-17 Nelson County squad in The Iron Warrior Classic, Southwestern trailed the Cardinals at the half 26-24, but no worries, the Warriors would roar back.
Southwestern blew this one wide open, by outscoring the Cards 22-2 in a decisive third quarter, taking a very comfortable 46-28 lead into the fourth quarter of play.

In fact, the Warriors held Nelson County in check for the entire second half, only allowing the Cards 8 points in the third and fourth periods combined, on their way to the 38-point rout.
Several Warrior players had huge days in the game, led by Brayden Sims, who recorded a double-double in the win, scoring 15 points and pulling down 15 boards.
Jon Wood had another stellar performance for the blue and orange, scoring 13 points and recording 8 rebounds, to go along with a pair of blocks.
Andrew Smith added 12 points and Hunter Coffey scored 10 points, while dishing out 4 assists and coming up with 3 steals.
Cole Dysinger led the Warriors with 5 assists on the day, in helping Baker and crew move to 8-10 on the season.
Southwestern will face McCreary Central at The Wigwam on Thursday night of this week at 7:30 p.m. in a 48th District contest.
