The Pulaski County Lady Maroons came into Friday night’s game against Rockcastle County with a 10-5 record on the season, giving Chris Adkins’ and company four more wins this season than all of last year.
However, Pulaski County stood at 0-1 in district play, and was needing to hold serve at home hosting the Rockcastle County Lady Rockets.
However, it did not happen.
Mackenzie Himes scored a game-high 18 points and her teammate Casey Coleman added 13 points, as the Lady Rockets came out of The PC Gym with a 50-44 win over Pulaski County.
In a very low-scoring affair, Rockcastle County led this one 20-15 at the intermission as both teams were ice cold from the field.
For Pulaski County, the three-pointers were just not falling for much of the game and that put Adkins and company into a hole.
Heidi Thompson led PC in scoring with 13 points, but she was the only Lady Maroon player to hit for double figures in the contest.
Rockcastle County maintained its lead in the second half, leading the Lady Maroons 30-26 through the end of three quarters of play, and held that advantage through the fourth and final frame.
PC — now 10-6 on the year and 0-2 in district play — will return to action on Monday night with another pivotal 47th District contest up for grabs.
The Lady Maroons will take on Somerset at The Briar Patch on Monday night in a girl-boy doubleheader, with the girl’s contest tipping things off at 6 p.m.
